Benefits & features

Fully portable or mobile system offer easy setup and ergonomic operation

The optical measuring CMMs are available in a portable and a mobile configuration. As such they are the ideal tool for on-site measurement and troubleshooting task for applications requiring a large measuring volume.

Systems can be also integrated in existing metrology rooms by fixing the camera to the ceiling, wall or space frame.

Accurate non-contact measuring technology

Powerful CMOS technology incorporated into LC60Dx translates into higher measuring accuracy, resulting in a typical MPEp value of 7 micron according to EN ISO 10360-5. This brings the all-digital scanner in the accuracy range of tactile measurement. E.g. The Multi-stylus accuracy test is comparable to EN/ISO 10360-5 MPEal and scans a sphere with 5 different scanner
orientations. Then the 3D deviation is calculated between the center of each sphere that’s fit through a single pointcloud and the center of the average sphere.

Ideal for measuring soft and fragile parts

Measuring soft, fragile or brittle parts potentially yield inaccurate measurements or surface scratches. As laser scanning technology is entirely non-contact, there is no risk for damage or inaccurate measurement. An example of such an application is the dimensional inspection of engine sand cores.

Superfast scanning

The LC60Dx laser scanner captures 75,000 measurement points per second. By acquiring a multitude of measurement points, the scanner is able to reliably digitize freeform shapes and geometric features. Both are critical for high-quality assembly and part mating.

Scanning nearly every material surface with ESP3

ESP3 incorporates dynamic point-per-point laser intensity adaptation of laser source intensity. This capability allows different surface materials, finishes and transitions to be scanned without user interaction, eliminating manual parameter tuning and part spraying altogether. ESP is a key differentiator when scanning similar parts in different manufacturing stages; initially dealing with bare sheet metal parts and finally scanning finished products painted in any color.

Seamless retrofit for most leading CMM brands

As applicable to all Nikon Metrology CMM scanners, the LC60Dx scanners can be retrofitted on a wide range of CMM brands to boost inspection productivity of existing CMM installations anywhere in the world.

Premium reliability in any working conditions

Nikon Metrology development engineers optimized scanner design for maximum operational stability and robustness. Critical in this regard is that principal scanner components are mounted in an ultra-stiff tress-free aluminum housing.
Special attention is paid to temperature stability by design and temperature compensation algorithms in order to minimize warm-up time and guarantee reliable accuracy under shop floor conditions.

Compatible with Renishaw indexing heads and change racks

The LC60Dx scanners are compatible with common Renishaw indexing heads. The scanners also fit in the ACR racks and can be used in combination with tactile probes for e.g. alignment of the part. By docking a scanner in an dedicated ARC3 rack, zero warm-up time is obtained resulting in maximum productivity.

Available as CMM or portable scanner

In the case companies own fixed-bed CMMs and articulated arms, the LC60Dx uniquely allows to easily exchange the scanner between CMM and MCA II portable arms. In this way, most of the digitizing work can be done with one single laser scanner.

Ready for scanning and probing

K-Scan MMDx

The K-Scan MMDx is a walk-around scanning solution combining the digital ModelMaker MMDx laser scanner with the portable K-series optical CMM. K-Scan is ideally suited for on-site 3D digitizing tasks requiring minimum setup and fast results.  Operating the scanner with a laser stripe width up to 200mm is easy and efficient. The 6m working range of the optical CMM is more than sufficient to take measurements in and around a full vehicle. The dense point clouds that are acquired can be graphically analyzed in Focus software, or in 3rd party packages.

SpaceProbe

The ergonomic SpaceProbe is used for traditional touch trigger or analog scanning measurements. Automatic tip detection supports a variety of ball and point probes and extensions.

  • Robust, lightweight design
  • Ergonomic position of trigger buttons to control measurements
  • Sound and LED measurement feedback
  • Wireless kit available
  • Multiple probe tip extensions for cavity measurement
  • Analysis in CMM-Manager or 3rd party tactile measurement software

Measurement object motion compensation through dynamic object referencing

The initial alignment of a work piece is monitored by 3 LEDs mounted directly on the part. The camera-to-part position is constantly monitored and updated, avoiding the need for leap-frogging. As such it is possible to measure objects on vibrating workfloor or parts that move.

Optical measurements technology

K-Series cameras measure the position of infrared LEDs by means of linear CCD cameras. Through triangulation, the 3D position of each LED is calculated. 9 LEDs are built into the handheld SpaceProbe, an ergonomically device that enables an inspector to measure the actual 3D data of an inspection part in single point or scanning mode. The optical measuring CMMs are available in a portable and a mobile configuration.

Large (17m3) and expandable measurement volume

When large objects such as a bus or construction vehicle need to be measured it is possible to expand the measurement volume with the walk around reference. This dedicated option enables the customer to locate the K-600 Optical Camera 360º round the vehicle without the need for re-alignment. As such the whole vehicle can be measured with one single camera saving tremendous system costs of extra material. Because the system requires only one initial alignment, there is also an important saving of labor time.

Robotized metrology enables inline inspection and absolute Accurate Robots

Robot metrology accelerates repetitive inspection and assembly tasks. With K-Series Optical CMM, Nikon Metrology ensures that robots operate accurately and reliably all the time. Customers use the metrology system to calibrate robots up-front, or monitor one or more robots in real time to optimize robot precision. in any case precision is guaranteed, delivering predictable results all the way through.

  • Absolute robot accuracy through calibration or continuous robot tracking
  • Improved accuracy for repetitive inspection and  assembly tasks
  • Better economics by combining metrology with  industrial robots

Metrology in motion

Validating simulation models using physical prototypes and pre-series parts is a critical activity in automotive, aerospace, naval and civil engineering. K-Series DMM (Dynamic Motion Measurement) combines high-speed optical sensors and modular software applications to respond to these challenging motion analysis tasks. K-Series DMM eliminates cumbersome setup work because the sensors can be mounted and calibrated in minutes, instead of hours.  The use of infrared LED markers allows for more accurate measurement of high-frequency macro motions by adding only a few grams of instrumentation mass to the test piece.

  • One system for static and dynamic measurements
  • Measure up to 1000Hz
  • Standalone operation with motion analysis package
  • Sensor operation with digital data stream to client application
  • Unique capability to measure multiple 3D targets (X, Y, Z)
  • 3D animation enables to replay recorded motions in detail
  • Scripting enables automation of measurements and processing
